The following definitions are the intendedmeanings of terms used in this standard or asso-ciated with separable insulated connectors sys-tems. Figures i and 2 show typical componentsof separable insulated connectors. The term con-nector as used in this standard means separableinsulated connector.
bushing insert. A connector component in-tended for insertion into a bushing well (see Fig 1).bushing well. An apparatus bushing having acavity for insertion of a connector component, such as a bushing insert (see Fig l).
continuous current rating. The designatedrms alternating or direct current which the con-nector can carry continuously under specifiedconditions.
dead-break connector. A connector designedto be separated and engaged on de-energized cir-cuits only.
elbow. A connector component for connecting apower cable to a bushing, so designed that whenassembled with the bushing, the axes of the ca-ble and bushing are perpendicular (see Fig 1).environmentaltemperature.The tempera-ture of the surrounding medium, such as air, water, and earth, into which the heat of the connector is dissipated directly, including the effectof heat dissipation from associated cables andapparatus.ground bushing. An accessorydevice designed to electrically ground and mechanicallyseal a de-energized power cable terminated withan elbow.
groundingelbow. An accessory device designed to electrically ground and mechanicallyseal a bushing insert,or integral bushing.
holddown bail. An externally mounted devicedesigned to prevent separation at the operatinginterface of an elbow and an apparatus bushing.insulated parking bushing. An accessory device designed to electrically insulate and shieldand mechanically seal a power cable terminatedwith an elbow.
insulated cap. An accessory device designed toelectrically insulate and shield and mechanicallyseal a bushing insert or integral bushing.
integral bushing. An apparatus bushing de-signed for use with another connector compo-nent,such as an elbow (see Fig 1).IEEE 386 pdf download.
