ASTM D635-03 pdf free.Standard Test Method for Rate of Burning andlor Extent and Time of Burning of Plastics in a Horizontal Position.
For specimens with which the flame front passedthe 25 mm reference mark but did not reach the 100 mmreference mark, the elapsed time (t) and burned length (L). If a specimen does not burn to the 100 mm markbecause of dripping, flowing, or falling burning particles, thereport must so indicate. If a specimen is reignited by burning material on thegauze, the report must so state. For specimens with which the flame front reachedthe 100 mm reference mark, the average linear burning rate.Whether the flexible specimen support fixture wasused. The caveat contained in 1.4 herein shall be incor-porated in its entirety in the test report issued.Optional-Flame classification as determined fromthe appendix.Table 1 is based on a round robin completed in 19878in accordance with Practice E691,involving three selfsupporting materials tested by eleven laboratories. Each laboratory conditioned, at 23C and 50 % relative humidity, thespecimens that it tested. Each laboratory conducted the tests ina laboratory hood with the hood exhaust essentially turned off.All three materials were classified by the test as possessing anaverage burning rate. Each test result consisted of an averagelinear burning rate determined from three specimens. Eachlaboratory obtained three test results for each material.
Table 2 is based on a round robin completed in 1986in accordance with Practice 691, involving four materials thatrequired use of the flexible specimen support fixture and testedby six different laboratories. For each material, all sampleswere provided by one source. The individual specimens werecut and distributed by one laboratory. Each laboratory conditioned, at 23C and 50 % relative humidity, the specimens thatit tested. Each test result consisted of an average linear burningrate determined from three specimens. Each laboratory obtained two average linear burning rates from a total sixindividual specimen test results for each material. This test method does not contain a numerical precision and bias statement for the time of burning and extent ofburning for specimens where the flame front passes the 25-mmreference mark, but does not reach the 100-mm reference mark, and therefore shall not be used as a referee test method forthese two characteristics in case of dispute. Due to the rarity ofmaterials which consistently produce this result,a numericalprecision and bias statement for this type of test result is notbeing actively pursued at this time.ASTM D635 pdf download.
