ASTM D579-04 pdf free.Standard Specification for Greige Woven Glass Fabrics.
Place a swatch of the sample on a flat surface, faceside up (see Section 3,Terminolgy, definitions for Eight andTwelve Harness Satins). Position the swatch with the warpdirection extending forward and away from the observer.33.4.2 Select a starting point on the surface of the fabricwhere a warp end is raised over a filling pick (raiser yarn).33.4.3 Denote a filling end raised over a warp end (Sinkeryarn) on the face of the fabric by an unmarked block. Plot the weave construction by first marking a blockon the graph paper designating the starting raiser yarn.
Continue plotting from left to right, from the firstraiser yarn, showing raiser yarns as marked blocks and sinkeryarns as unmarked blocks until a minimum of two repeats ofthe pattern are observed. In a like manner, plot up from the firstraiser yarn until a minimum of two repeats of the pattern areobserved corresponding to each designated block in the left-to-right pattern.
Compare the design plot to Figs.A1.1-A1.6.Leno and mock leno have a distinct visual appear-ance and may be identified without plotting.
State that the fabric weave type of the rolls of fabricwas determined as directed in Section 33 of SpecificationD 579.Describe the material or product sampled and themethod of sampling used.Report the fabric weave type for each roll includingthe raiser/sinker pattern in terms of the warp ends up and down.Lay each sample cut as directed in 36.3.2 on a pieceof wrapping paper of similar size.Lay out five test specimens38 by 150 mm (1.5 by 6 in.) on the fabric by drawing light lineswith a soft, black wax pencil so that the yarns to be tested, warpor filling, are parallel to the longer direction. Draw lines acrossthe specimens 40 mm (1.6 in) from each end, using very lightpressure on the wax pencil to avoid possible damage to thesurface filaments.Thoroughly impregnate the 40 mm (1.625in.) specimen end strips with butyl methacrylate solution (orsubstitute) which must soak through the fabric in order tosecure firm adhesion to the paper. Spread the solution in aneven film to secure a uniform pressure from the testingmachine jaws against the test specimen. Dry the impregnatedsample slowly,24 h without forcing, until the solvent iscompletely removed. Be sure to have the impregnant cover thecross lines to reinforce those sections where some of thesurface fibers may have been fractured when those lines weredrawn. On thick fabrics, paint both sides of the specimens byapplying a coat of the impregnant to the back of the fabric orto the top surface of the backing paper.
Cut the 150 by 38 mm (6 by 1.5 in.) test specimenstrips from the prepared sample without removing the paperbacking. Ravel the central unimpregnated portion of thespecimen to 25 mm (1 in.) in width as directed in Test MethodD 5035.After raveling, load samples in the test clamps, cut the38 mm (1.5 in.) wide paper backing across midway betweenthe ends, taking care not to damage the fabric specimen.ASTM D579 pdf download.
