ASTM C903-15 (2020) pdf free.Standard Practice for Preparing Refractory Specimens by Cold Gunning.
This practice covers a procedure for preparing refractoryspecimens usually containing calcium aluminate cement withor without metal fibers by cold nozzle-mix gunning.Specimensprepared in accordance with this practice are intended for usein standard ASTM test methods required for evaluating gunnedmaterials.
The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.
This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use. lt is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
This practice provides parameters to produce gunnedspecimens for use in other ASTM test methods.
This practice may be used to produce specimens foracceptance testing, service evaluation, manufacturing control, and research and development.Differences between various kinds of equipment and thedifferences in procedures and operator techniques may result insignificant variations in the physical properties of the gunnedspecimens. It is recommended that the same operator use thesame equipment to produce specimens for referee testingagreed to by the involved testing parties. The specific operatingparameters should be shown in the report.Although this practice is specifically designed for refractories containing calcium aluminate cement, it may be usedwith minor modifications for gun mixes containing other bondsystems.
Cut suitably sized lamination-free specimens from thecentral section. If excessive tearout of refractory grain occurswhile cutting, it may be necessary to dry the panel first beforecutting (for example,low-cement gun mix).Cut specimen toexclude the portion nearest the backboard to eliminate trappedrebound. Identify the gunned face or gunning direction on eachspecimen since it may influence the results of subsequent tests.ASTM C903 pdf download.
