This document specifies the material requirements and dimensions of an international flange fortransfer of ballast water between a ship and a shore reception facility, or between ships.
lt does not address any reconfiguration of the ship’s ballast water piping system necessary to connecto the shore-side, e.g.construction of piping from the ship lower machinery levels to the main decktransfer area.
There are no normative references in this document.For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

maximum allowable working pressure.highest stress to which a piping system component can be subjected, based on materials, thickness anddesign calculations.International flanges for ballast water transfer systems shall be flat-faced and of steel or equivalentmaterial construction.Flanges shall be galvanically compatible with the piping system to which theyare installed.All other parts of the system shall be constructed of materials suitable for the service intended.Fasteners shall be of corrosion-resistant materials that are galvanically compatible with thematerial of the flange.
Flanges shall be designed and manufactured in accordance with the dimensions specified in Clause 7.To meet the dimensional and pressure-rating requirements of this document, the flanges should meetthe design and testing requirements of a recognized national or international flange standard, suchas DIN 2632, DIN 2633,BS EN 1092,ASME B16.5,JIS B2220,GB/T 2501 or other equivalent designstandard.
The flange shall have a minimum pressure rating of not less than 1 MPa (145 psig).NOTE Normally, a flange of at least a PN 10 rating satisfies this requirement.Gaskets and associated parts shall be of materials suitable for the MAWP and seawater service.5.4Accessories
The international flange for ballast water transfer systems shall be supplied with eight bolts and thecorresponding nuts and washers.
Welding personnel shall be qualified in accordance with recognized standards, and welding materialsin accordance with recognized standards shall be utilized.The dimensions of the international flange for ballast water transfer systems shall be in accordancewith Table 1 and Figure 1.Bolt holes shall be evenly spaced (i.e.the centres of the 8 holes are 45 degreesapart for DN 200).
Variations in the inside and outside diameter are acceptable depending on the type of flange connectiondesign. The bolt circle diameter (D.) shall be as specified in Table 1.ISO 23055 pdf download.
