BS G 243 This British Standard specifies the physical properties and performance requirements for highenergy igniter cables of sizes 030 and 050 which aresuitable for working at voltages of not more than 4 kV d.c.The cables are suitable for continuous use where themaximum stabilized conductor temperature doesnot exceed 260°C, and for applications involvingflexing at temperatures down to – 65°℃.NOTE 1 The latest revision of an Aerospace standard isindicated by the prefix number.NOTE2The titles of the publications referred to in thisstandard are listed on the inside back page.
The materials and method of construction used forthe formation of the cables shall be defined andcontrolled to the satisfaction of the ApprovingAuthority1). No change shall be made to such materials or processes unless it can be shown to thesatisfaction of the Approving Authority that theperformance and handling properties of the cablehave not been degraded.
Conductors used in the manufacture of thiscable shall comply with BS G 231.
Copper strands shall be nickel-plated(see Figure 1).
The insulation shall consist of two or morecontrawrapped lapped layers of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape sintered intoan homogeneous mass (see Figure 1).
The insulation shall not be loose on theconductor but it shall be possible to strip the
insulation from the conductor leaving the latter in asufficiently clean condition to permit satisfactoryconnections to be made to terminations.Cable properties shall be in accordance withTable 1.The colour of the finished cable shall be white.3 Designation and marking.The designation and marking of the cable shallcomply with clause 4 of BS G 230:1984.
The packaging and labelling of cable shall complywith clause 5 of BS G 230:1984.
When tested in accordance with 6.1 the cable shallcomply with the specific requirements given inTable 2.
Cable shall be tested in accordance with Table 2.Test methods shall comply with BS G 230.
