BS 6803-3:1990 pdf free.Vehicle security alarmsystems — Code of practice for the protection of vehicles and goods intransit.
BS 6803-3 Automatic setting should commence with the complete switching off of the vehicle ignition, i.e.thealarm should set once the accessory position hasbeen passed and/or the ignition key removed orupon opening of the driver’s door or by initiation ofanother timed setting procedure. In situations where the driver has to remain in the vehicle aftercompletely turning off the ignition, a secondaryinternal keyswitch or keypad of greater than 100 000 differs may be used to override thealarm setting.
Automatic setting procedures should not be capableof being unset solely by means of the vehicle ignitionkey , unless this is also of not less than 100 000 differs.
Unsetting of a system for re-entry to a protectedvehicle should be by means of an external spring-loaded keyswitch of not less than 100 000differs.Any permitted entry delay should not exceed 30 s; separated trailers and containers mayalso incorporate an entry delay of not more than 30 s to allow for unsetting of a system from theinside. Entry delays should always be as short as ispracticable in circumstances of normal use.
The system should incorporate control equipmentfor the setting and unsetting of the system, housedin an enclosed container intended for siting, wherethe vehicle construction allows, within a physically-protected area of the vehicle.Thecontainer should incorporate tamper detectionwhich should operate when any cover is opened bythe normal means of access.
Detector circuits should be normally closed, openingon alarm. Perimeter protection should cover allrecognized entry points.
Current-sensing and trembler devices should not beused since they can be a source of unreliability in analarm system and/or create false alarms.
Tilt switches should be used only for detection of themovement of tilting cabs of heavy goods vehicles.Acoustic, glass-break and shock sensors may beused for perimeter protection but should not be thesole means of detection for an alarm condition to begenerated.
Protective switches should be of appropriate mechanical strength and electrical rating, suitablefor reliable operation over an extended period in theenvironment in which they will be expected to operate.
Movement detectors, such as ultrasonic, infra-redand microwave will only detect penetration into thevehicle and should only be used in conjunction withperimeter protection or should be of the dual-technology type.BS 6803 pdf download.
