AGMA 945-A18 pdf download.AGMA Information Sheet Splines – Design and Application.
The terms used, wherever apphcable, conform to ANSI/AGMA 1012, Gear Nomenclature, Definitions of Terms with Symbols.
3.1.1 Active spline length
The length of spline that contacts the mating spline. On sliding splines, it may exceed the length of engagement.
3.1.2 Actual space width
The circular width on the pitch circle of any single space considerin9 an infinitely thin increment of axial spline length.
3.1.3 Actual tooth thickness
The circular width on the pitch circle of any single tooth considering an infinitely thin increment of axial spline length
3.1.4 Alignment deviation
The deviation of the effective spline axis with respect to the reference axis.
3.1.5 Basic circular space width or tooth thickness at the pitch diameter Half of the circular pitch for 30°, 37.5° and 45° pressure angle splines.
3.1.6 Beam loading tensile stress
Tensile stress due to the tangential force at the pitch line causing bending of the teeth.
3.1.7 Bursting stresses
Tensile stresses generated by either the radial component of the transmitted load, centrifugal effects, or the tangential force at the pitch line causing bending of the teeth.
3.1.8 CentrIfugal tensile stress
Stress created by centrifugal forces due to maximum rotation speed.
3.1.9 Chamfers and corner clearance
Material removal along the corners of the top land over the length of the spline for the purpose of creating clearance between the external and internal splines.
3.1.10 Chordal space width for parallel straight sided spline
Distance between the adjacent sides of any two sequential teeth of a parallel straight sided internal spline.
3.1.11 Chordal tooth thickness for parallel straight sided spline
Distance between the two sides of any tooth of a parallel straight sided external spline.
3.1.12 Contact diameter, ball or pin
The diameter where the ball or pin outside diameter is tangent to the tooth flank.
3.1.13 Depth of engagement
The radial distance from the minor diameter of the internal spline to the major diameter of the external spline, minus corner clearance and/or chamfer depth.
3.1.14 Deviation allowance
Permissible deviation between minimum actual and minimum effective space width or maximum effective and maximum actual tooth thickness.
3.1.15 Effective clearance
The effective space width of the internal spline minus the effective tooth thickness of the external spline. For looseness, effective clearance is positive; for interference, effective clearance is negative.AGMA 945 pdf download.
