BS 8435:2005 pdf free.Small craft — Reserveflotation—Boats up tosix metres length of hull.
BS 8435 This British Standard describes two alternative methods for evaluating the buoyancy and flotation of craftvulnerable to swamping or sinking after sustaining localized impact damage to certain parts of their
flotation elements:
a) a physical test; and
b) an equivalent calculation.
This British Standard is applicable to boats with hull lengths of up to six metres that have been assessed(and categorized) for stability and buoyancy in accordance with BS EN ISO 12217-3:2002; options 1,3,6,7,8 or 9, and excludes:
—aquatic toys;
—canoes, kayaks, or other boats with a beam of less than 1.1 m;
—inflatable and rigid-inflatable boats up to eight metres covered by BS EN ISO 6185;
—personal watercraft covered by BS EN ISO 13590;
— hydrofoils and hovercraft when operating in the dynamically supported mode;- submersibles.
This British Standard does not include or evaluate the buoyancy or the effects on the flotation of craft inmultiple or severe damage conditions.

ISO 2896:2001,Rigid cellular plastics – Determination of water absorption.
The boat shall be equipped in the light craft condition according to BS EN ISO 8666,with the followingadditional requirements where relevant.
a)Removable ballast(whether solid or liquid), when supplied andJor intended by the manufacturer, shallbe in place.
b) Where provision is made for propulsion by outboard engine(s) of more than 3 kW, the heavies
engine(s) recommended for the boat by the manufacturer shall be mounted in the working position(s).c)Vulnerable items such as engines or batteries may be replaced with an equivalent mass of brass, iron,steel or lead at the correct location.Replacement masses are given in Tables 1 and 2 in the columns headed”Swamp”.
d) For outboard engines, the builder’s maximum recommended power shall be used. Tables 1 and 2,column 3, give the required replacement mass to be used with respect to engine power for petrol engines and their controls. A heavier mass may be used if it is recorded in the owner’s manual. If diesel, jetpropulsor or electric outboards are supplied as the standard outfit, 86 % of the actual dry mass shall be used.Boats equipped for use with and without an outboard engine shall be tested in both conditions.BS 8435 pdf download.
