4,3 Particleboard
Panel material manufactured under pressure and heat from particles of wood (wood flakes, strands, chips, shavings, sawdust, and similar) andior lignocellulosic material in particle form (flax shives, hemp hurds, bagasse fragments. rice hulls, wheat straw and similar) with the addition of an adhesive.
Wood-based partickboard may be manufactured from virgin, reclaimed or recycled fibre or combinations of each.

Recycled materials are defined in AS 4707. Within the definition for ‘Recycled material’, Item (a) refers to reclaimed fibre and Item (b) refers to recycled fibre.

Particleboard is classified as follows:
(a) Standard particleboard (STD) is intended for use in dry conditions, for example, for interior fitments (including furniture) in dry areas.
(b) Moisture resistant particleboard (MR) is intended for use in humid, interior conditions, for example, for interior fitmenis (including furniture) in humid areas such as occur in tropical climates and in kitchens, laundries and bathrooms, where occasional wetting may occur.
NOTES:
I MR particleboard should not be used where persistent wetting is likely. If particleboard is Id in continuously wet conditions, degradation will occur through adhesive failure and/or fungal attack.
2 Exterior use should be strictly in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, instructions and guidelines.
6 REQ1IREMLTS AT DISPAl’CH
6.1 General
Particleboard shall comply with the general requirements listed in Tables I and 2 when dispatched from the producing factory.
Some supplementary properties and their appropriate test methods are given in Clause .
6.2 Dimensions
Thickness, length, width and squareness tolerances shall he within the maximum tolerances stated in Tables I and 2 at dispatch from the producing factory.
NOTE: For certain types or uses of particleboards (see specific standards for panel types and performance standards), or in the case of dispatch in cut sizes, or where panels arc further machined, special tolerances for thickness, length and width may be agreed between the user and the supplier.
6.3 Formaldchde emission
For formaldehyde emission, the requirements in Table I are the specification limits. The requirements are fulfilled if at least 95% of the mean values for individual panels are equal to or below the upper specification limit.AS/NZS 1859.1 pdf download.
