Terminology — Terms and definitions
This former part of the AS 4024.1 — 2006 series has been withdrawn.
General principles for design — Risk assessment and risk reduction
Part 1201 is a direct text adoption of iSO 12100:2010, Safety of machinery
— General principles for design — Risk assessment and risk reduction. This Standard specifies basic terminology, principles and methodology for achieving safety in the design of machinery. It provides information about risk assessment, risk reduction, basic principles and terminology, and includes the former principles of the risk assessment Standard ISO 14121-1:2007 in its entirety. It should be read by all machine safety practitioners as a prelude to hazard identification, determining risk and risk control strategies.
Risk assessment includes the process of evaluating the risk that has been determined and making decisions about the need for further risk reduction. This may lead to an iterative process to reduce risks so far as is reasonably practicable by safe design measures prior to reliance on administrative controls that are applied to control any residual risk. This also aligns with the requirements expressed as the hierarchy of risk control in Australian law under the work (occupational) health and safety regulations in each state and territory.
Reasonably foreseeable misuse of the machine (use of a machine in a way not intended by the designer, but which can result from readily predictable human behaviour) also needs to be considered in the risk analysis process.

This former part of the AS 4024.1XXX — 2006 series is now tully incorporated in Part 1201 (see above) and has been withdrawn.
Safety of machinery – Electrical equipment of Machines – Part 1:
General requirements
Part 1204 is a direct text adoption of the widely referenced IEC 60204:2016. IEC 60204 is referenced in many parts of AS 4024.1XXX series and it was considered by the committee to be so fundamental to the use of AS 4024.IXXX series that the latest edition was fully incorporated into the standard to enable practitioners immediate access to the information. Previously IEC 60204 was published as AS 60204.1—2005, and is now withdrawn.
Part 1204 provides requirements and recommendations relating to the electrical equipment of machines so as to promote:
(a) Safety of persons and property
(b) Consistency of control response
(c) Ease of operation and maintenance
Part 1204 applies to electrical, electronic and programmable electronic equipment to machines not portable by hand while working, including a group of machines working together in a coordinated manner. The equipment covered by this part commences at the point of connection of the supply to the electrical equipment of the machine. AS/NZS 3000 covers the requirements up to the point of connection.
The primary subjects covered are:
• Electrical supply
• Physical environment and operating conditions
• Incoming supply conductor terminations and devices for disconnecting and switching off
• Protection against electric shock
• Protection of equipment
• Equipotenlial bonding; control circuits and control functions.AS 4024.1100 pdf download.
